Transparent canopies can be created using single-layer ETFE film. Depending on the design loads, the covering requires a cable reinforcement system. These cables are connected to the ETFE film through cable pockets and work in synergy with the ETFE itself. The result is a highly transparent and visually very light envelope. The covering can be integrated into a self-supporting substructure (as shown in the photograph) or attached to an existing building. The supporting structure is usually designed to act as a water collection channel and to house the lighting system.
