Maco Technology is working on the implementation of a canopy at the entrance to a shopping centre. The canopy, measuring approximately 700 square metres, consists of two curved truss arches connected to each other by a truss element, two tensioning antennas and a series of membrane fixing points on the ground along the entire perimeter of the structure. The result is a tensile structure with a typical saddle shape. Maco Technology’s task is to structurally reinforce the existing structure on the basis of a specific structural analysis capable of understanding the interaction between the membrane and the substructure. Spacers will be introduced between the arches to ensure that they remain in position under all load conditions. The membrane will also be designed with tensioning details and fabric plates capable of meeting both the structural and aesthetic requirements that such a project deserves.
